Practical Perl 6

Jeffrey Goff — 240 minutes 🦋

Learn Perl 6 hands-on as we build a database-driven wiki application from the ground up with a modern fully-asynchronous web server, SQLite and a full OORDBMS. We'll construct a simple web application that you can deploy and launch with one command! Don't worry if you don't know Perl 6, that's what you're here to learn.

You should know some programming; Perl 5 is fine or any other "scripting" language like Python, Ruby or Lua. I've given similar presentations at past YAPCs and even OSCON, so you're in experienced hands. Be sure to bring your Internet-ready laptop, the latest version of Perl 6 and your boundless curiosity.

In the morning we'll cover the basics of what's changed between Perls 5 and 6, and after a break for lunch we'll dive in and build a modern Perl 6 web application that you'll be able to deploy to CPAN with one command.
